    • NFL Denies Reports of Vick Suspension

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 13 2007 08:25 PM | PERMALINK

The NFL denied reports yesterday that Goodell was ready to hand down a year-long suspension for Mike Vick, as had been reported on Yahoo. Vick had been told not to report to training camp, but so far no other sentence has been handed down. The commissioners’ office is reported now to still be in a fact-finding mode and has not yet made any decision concerning further disciplinary actions regarding the embattled Quarterback. Analysts, however, are still predicting a suspension in the next two...

    • Russell Should Stay Out of Oakland

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 13 2007 03:00 PM | PERMALINK

JaMarcus Russell, first overall draft pick with the Oakland Raiders in the 2007 NFL draft obviously did not start the Raider’s first preseason game on Saturday, still holding out from the Raiders until the contract money is right. Word of advice, Russell: there isn’t enough money in the world to justify playing for that wreck of a franchise. Both sides are reportedly no closer to a deal, and word has it that negotiations are getting "ugly."

Typically, contract holdouts are met with disdain and...

    • McNabb to Sit Preseason Opener

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 13 2007 11:52 AM | PERMALINK

In a move that shouldn’t particularly surprise anyone, Donovan McNabb will not play the Eagle’s preseason opener against the Ravens on Monday. A.J. Feeley will instead take the start with Kelly Holcomb getting the secondary backup reps. Controversial (at least in Philadelphia) draft pick Kevin Kolb will take the field in the second half to give Eagles fans a glimpse of the future.

The move is certainly a sound one for the Eagles, as McNabb needs no preseason warmup to his mechanics or gameplan...

The NFL preseason schedule continues to rumble along this week, giving us the Colts and Cowboys last night on Fox and Bengals and Lions tonight on the NFL network. Millions of rabid fans join along and count down the days to the kickoff of the NFL regular season, giving us the best six months of sports action out of the year and dominating the American cultural landscape.

    • Problems Already for the Saints?

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 08 2007 05:10 PM | PERMALINK

They became the new America's team last year following a magical year, reinspiring the devastated New Orleans area and becoming a damn good football team in the process. The Saints looked prime to continue the wave of emotion and talent into the new season, but things are looking rocky early for the team everyone loves to cheer for now.

Following an embarrassing beatdown by the Steelers in the Hall of Fame game, coach Sean Payton turned what was supposed to be a mild walkthrough into a full blown...

    • My Life As A Tortured Jets Fan

POSTED BY DAVE, AUGUST 07 2007 01:34 PM | PERMALINK

In honor of today’s NFL preview show, featuring the AFC East, I thought I’d shed some light on how it feels to root for the Jets.

I still remember my first Jets game. I was 6, watching TV with my dad. The Jets, led by quarterback Richard Todd and a ferocious defensive line, were battling the Buffalo Bills in a tight playoff game.

It was late fourth quarter and Shea Stadium was rocking with loud -- and probably very drunk -- Jet fans. The Jets trailed, but were driving to score the game-winning...
