    • Strahan, Why So Sad?

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 30 2007 12:48 PM | PERMALINK

It's Aug. 29 — the NFL season kickoff is right around the corner, and Michael Strahan still hasn't decided whether to report to the Giants. NY Daily News is reporting that Strahan is still taking "the next day or two" to sort out what he wants to do regarding the season. This is just one of those situations where fan perspective and player perspective are worlds apart.

Fans of the NFL can understand why veteran players will sometimes choose to pull a holdout maneuver during training camp. No human...

    • Rex Grossman Most Thrilling QB Alive

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 22 2007 10:46 AM | PERMALINK

Rex Grossman is the most exciting player to watch in sports, ever. Unless you are a Bears fan, of course If you don't care whether the Bears win or lose, however, watching Grossman is thrilling. It's like watching the ultimate exercise in futility. How will he mess up next? How ridiculously ill-conceived, rushed and horribly thrown will his next interception be? How many snaps will he take before he fumbles? How does he continue to pull off such utter futility consistently and retain a starting job...

    • My Fantasy Football Nightmare

POSTED BY DAVE, AUGUST 20 2007 04:27 PM | PERMALINK

Like most of you, I'm playing fantasy football this season. And, like most of you, I can't wait. In fact, I've already bought the magazines, read the "experts" columns and started putting together my draft board. But yesterday all my joy, excitement and anticipation was sucked out of me when the commissioner of my league announced this year's draft order.

As you can tell from this article's headline, I'm picking next to last — that's right, no Tomlinson, Gore, Jackson, LJ or Alexander. Just a bunch...

    • Vick to Star in His Own "Longest Yard"

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 20 2007 03:16 PM | PERMALINK

The other shoe has finally dropped in the Mike Vick case with Vick reportedly ready to plead guilty to the charges, although this shouldn't particularly shock anyone. Once the federal government comes at you with an indictment, the chances of getting out unscathed are roughly equivalent of the chances that the Raiders win the Super Bowl this year.

With this, Vick's chances of ever being able to have any sort of positive public image in the future, much less play football are also zero. We all saw the...

    • McNabb Plays Game, Doesn't Get Injured

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 18 2007 01:13 PM | PERMALINK

Donovan "the man with one knee" McNabb looked surprisingly good in his return to the field in the Eagle's preseason game against the Panthers yesterday, completing 6-of-9 passes for 138 yards and most importantly, got sacked and got back up. Fantasy football speculators are undoubtedly already moving the fragile Quarterback up their draft boards after the performance. Meanwhile, fans in Philly will be happy about it for about eight seconds, then will start screaming to re-sign Jeff Garcia (oh, you...

    • A Strange Year of Fantasy

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 14 2007 03:06 PM | PERMALINK

After years of blissful fantasy football league fun, I’m excited for the fantasy draft this year more than ever. Typically, fantasy drafts are very formulaic processes where everyone pretty much knows how the first few rounds are going to play out, with a few exceptions here and there. For example, picking up Marques Colston in the late rounds last year made a huge difference for anyone who pulled the trigger on him. This year, however, so much is shaking up the first round orders that it’s...

    • More Like Steely McDumb

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 14 2007 02:35 PM | PERMALINK

It’s been one week since the Steelers unveiled their laughable mascot, Steely McBeam, to the unabated derision of the sports world as a whole. That week has not diluted the hatred expressed by many Steelers fans towards the Cowher caricature, nor has it lessened the joy of Browns fans everywhere. Browns fans may not have ever seen a Super Bowl win, but at least they don’t have Steely McBeam as a mascot.

Ridicule will undoubtedly heighten once the mascot (humorously pointed out to have a very...
