The new announcements regarding the Mitchell investigation, even with the injection of first-hand testimony from ex-Mets ballboy Kirk Radomski, is meaningless. That's right, I said it, it's meaningless. Meaningless to everyone except for older sports journalists and fans, that is, who still rail about it endlessly. Perhaps it breaks down into an age thing, where younger fans are more realistic and less starry-eyed about the way sports in the modern world works.

Proposing to a girl on the big screen during a sports game has got to be pretty much the dumbest thing men ever came up with in the long history of dumb things men come up with. Believe me when I say that I've disappointed enough women in my lifetime to sort of understand them, and if they have a list of top five places they want to be popped the question at, I'm willing to bet that "at the ballpark in the seventh inning" isn't on that list. Hell, I'm pretty sure it isn't on the list of top 50 places....

The only thing that could make Cubs fans happier (aside from an open-goat policy at the Wrigley Field gates) than being a half game back of Milwaukee right now in the NL Central is news that Carlos Zambrano has finished his negotiations with the team and has finally signed a $90 million, five-year contract extension.
