    • NBA Opening Night Observations

POSTED BY MATT MARQUEZ, OCTOBER 31 2007 04:00 PM | PERMALINK

Yesterday evening the NBA tipped off the first games of the 2007-08 season and I had front row seats on my couch. Here are a few of my observations.

Portland Trailblazers at San Antonio Spurs
      Final Score: 106-97, Spurs win

The Spurs looked sharp in the first half, playing the kind of efficient, defensive minded basketball that's won them four championships and bored thousands of fans to tears. Seriously, they are possibly the most boring team in the NBA and not just because of their reliance on...

    • Don't Leave, Kobe

POSTED BY MATT MARQUEZ, OCTOBER 23 2007 02:18 PM | PERMALINK

Kobe, you're the greatest basketball player of my generation and you're killing me.

I remember when you first announced your entry into the draft and I kept asking my dad, "Is he really that good?" You were skinny and bald but you showed flashes of greatness even in your rookie season. You didn't deserve to go to the All-Star game that year, but after attacking MJ with some pretty moves, you showed why you deserved to come back.

There were struggles, sure, but then Shaq and Phil arrived and a bright...

    • Donaghy Dropping Dimes

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 18 2007 01:31 PM | PERMALINK

It really figures that two days after writing a story about how Stern is taking this Donaghy thing way too hard, that I would be proven to be a total idiot. That's because Tim Donaghy is reportedly about to drop the dime on 20 other NBA refs regarding gambling. Not necessarily illegal gambling, but the kind of gambling that would get you banned from reffing the NBA, as well as the kind of public relations nightmare that Stern has been trying to keep contained. 20 other refs constitutes almost a third...

    • Chin Up, Mr. Stern

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 16 2007 12:53 PM | PERMALINK

Could David Stern possibly sound any more beaten and defeated than he does now? With each bit of news released surrounding the Tim Donaghy spectacle, Stern looks more and more like a man being led to the gallows. Now, Stern has certainly never been Mr. Personality and comes off as one of the stiffest, most naïve people on the face of the planet. Lately, he looks like he’s been punched in the stomach repeatedly before making press announcements.

The irony is I don’t think the issue is as bad as...

    • Celtics Continue to Look for Help

POSTED BY KENNETH ENGLAND, AUGUST 10 2007 12:00 PM | PERMALINK

Rumors have been circulating the last couple of days that Reggie Miller will come out of retirement for the newly revamped Boston Celtics. The 42 year old future Hall of Famer has revealed that he has been in discussions with the team regarding his potential future involvement, but nothing definitive has been decided as of yet.

Certainly, Miller would not play much more than an estimated 15 minutes a game for the team, nor would they need him to. The Celtics’ roster has been greatly improved...
