USF ... Really? I mean, really?
Well, hell has frozen over. The sky has fallen. I am numb.
Not only is my alma mater - the University of Miami - completely irrelevant in the college football landscape, but the University of South Florida is the number 2 team in the country! How is that possible??
The USF Bulls, a team nobody knows anything about, is in position to play for the national championship. And all the other Floida powerhouses (UF, FSU and UM) are nowhere to be found. I'm not even sure which of those two previous sentences is more shocking.
Let's start with USF. They've only had a team for 12 years! That is unreal. And yet, they are definitely for real. They won at Auburn and beat West Virigina at home this year. They have a very good QB, a great pass rusher and a fan base that is beyond rabid. You've got to give them their due.
As for UF, although they've stumbled a bit this year, they are still a national powerhouse. They play in the toughest conference, so you have to expect them to lose a game every now and them. Nothing wrong with the Gators.
The Noles and Canes on the other hand, stink. I mean, really really stink. FSU have lost to Clemson and Wake and haven't had a title contending team in years. Bobby Bowden just turned 100 and I could probably play quarterback for them. As for Miami, they got housed by Oklahoma and then dropped two snoozers to North Carolina and Georgia Tech. How irrelevant have UM and FSU become? They play each other this weekend and NOBODY cares. Not even me, and FSU is my forsaken rival.
So, in short, USF is the best team in Florida, and one of the two best teams in the country. UF is still great, just having a spell of bad luck. And FSU and UM should just fold up their tents, play their freshmen, and ... say it with me ... wait till next year.
