College Footballs Contenders and Pretenders

The Contenders
- LSU - Penn State - USC -
These three teams have it all. They went into the season as the favorites and have proven that they are the best of the best. With the exception of a few holes that only the best college and professional football scouts would notice these teams are dominant both on the offensive and defensive fronts.
Despite some tough upcoming games I expect these three teams to emerge from the fray unscathed.
Bubble Teams
- Alabama - Florida - Kentucky - Oregon -
Teams on the bubble can continue to rise just ask quickly as they could fall. One loss and these guys get bumped down with the pretenders. These teams are the teams that can make a sports analysts either look brilliant or like an idiot. While Alabama, Florida and Kentucky all had people talking in the preseason, the Oregon Ducks seem to have come out of no where. Their starting quarterback Dixon has gone from an inconsistent quarterback that couldn't win the big games to a Cinderella Heisman candidate.
There is, of course, a lot more football to be played, but this kid just seems unstoppable and the fact that their toughest games are played at home forces me to think the Ducks have a shot to shock people this year. Alabama, Florida and Kentucky all appear ready to exceed the already high expectations that have been placed on their programs this preseason. The only problem facing all three of them is that they all play in the SEC and none of them seem to be on the same level as LSU.
The Pretenders
- California -Hawaii - Ohio State - South Carolina -
- Virginia Tech -
It seems like months ago that Virginia Tech was considered a top 10 school. Whats boggling my mind is the fact that they are still in the top 25. Sure their only loss came at the hands of LSU but they haven't shown me anything this year that resembles a team thats going to make any noise. California began to get a lot of national recognition after they beat an extremely overrated Tennessee team whose starting quarterback had broken his finger earlier in the week. Ohio State got dominated in the national championship and loss a ton of players.
Besides, if Michigan's poor play hasn't taught all of us that the Big Ten is extremely overrated then I'm not sure what will. Hawaii needed to not only go undefeated but also dominate their opposition to be considered for a top bowl game and has already come close to losing. South Carolina did shock the world when they beat Georgia but people need to get off the Spurrier bandwagon because it won't be long until some of its tires get popped.
