Football Quarterback Busts

The quarterback position is the most coveted position in the game of football. It's also the position that has only a dozen or so people that will ever be thought of as the all time greats. This list of quarterbacks is far from the greatest of all time.

These guys are the reason general managers and coaches have loss their jobs. These guys prove that college "system" quarterbacks don't always translate into NFL caliber quarterbacks. These guys were supposed to be the savior that came in and led the team that drafted them to an all elusive Super Bowl title. These guys are my all time quarterback busts.

Vick Brothers

This list begins with two guys that had everything going for them. Many people don't even realize that most scouts were saying that Marcus Vick was the better of the two Vick brothers. Several reports claimed that he was not only better on his feet but was also had better arm strength and accuracy then Michael. With this in mind, he was last seen returning kicks for the Miami Dolphins and despite all the turmoil behind center for the Fin's, Vick hasn't even been considered as a backup.

Marcus managed to destroy his NFL career before it even started, being kicked out of Virgina Tech. He must have rubbed off on his older brother (or the other way around) because reports had little Vick staying over at his mentor's, best friend and soon to be kicked out of the NFL, older brothers house. It isn't necessary for an explanation as to why older brother, Michael Vick, is on this list. They were born with amazing God given talent and threw it away (along with all their millions upon millions of dollar). Thus the Vick brothers will always be at the top of my list of football quarterback busts.

Gator Quarterbacks

As a hard nosed Florida Gator fan its hard to admit this however its become impossible to deny. Sure these three were great college quarterbacks. Winning SEC championships, national championships and Heisman trophy's puts you on the list of University of Florida's all time greats. Those accomplishments haven't translated well in the NFL. Chris Leak wasn't even drafted and Danny Wuerffel is always mentioned amongst two impressive lists; the list of Heisman trophy quarterback busts and system quarterbacks that couldn't cut it in the NFL. Some might claim that I'm jumping the gun on Rex Grossman but if you've been paying attention to his career you can't argue that he isn't a great quarterback. After watching him play last week I refuse to even consider him a good quarterback.

High Draft Pick Busts

Ryan Leaf and Akili Smith single handily pushed their two respective teams back a minimum of five years. These two are on the top of everyones list. You've heard the arguments time and time again so I won't bore you with them here however its imperative not to exclude them.
