Dropping The Ball

A Look at the Truly Pathetic Performers of this Weekend
1. Michigan Wolverines: Don’t worry. They can still win the Big 10. That’s been the goal along. And thanks to the Wolverines, AP voters are now allowed to vote for I-AA teams. So at least they’re changing things. But this blowout to Oregon proves that last week wasn’t much of a fluke. This team just isn’t that good. Lloyd Carr – it’s a good thing you’re retiring, because you’re soooo fired if you’re not.
2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish: They suck. They’re horrible. And they really might go 0-8. More is at stake for Notre Dame than you might think because right now Charlie Weiss has the top recruiting class for 2008. Keep on losing like this, and some of those verbal commitments might start backing out.
3. New York Jets fans: If you didn’t catch it, Chad Pennington hurt his ankle in the third quarter of the loss to New England. Here is this warrior who has battled injury after injury hobbling on the field. Trying to stand up on his own power. And ultimately crumpling to the ground. And the Jets fans cheer. No, not every Jets fan cheered, but one is too many. That is just plain wrong. Never cheer an injured player, even on the other team. Oh and a quick reminder… Chad Pennington wasn’t covering Randy Moss or rushing the passer on Sunday. It wasn’t his fault that the Jets lost.
4.Major League Baseball: Great job, Major League Baseball! You have proved how irrelevant you are in this country. There’s about 20 games left and the pennant races are heating up, and nobody could give a damn. I cared a little actually. I was into it for a bit, but ultimately it was football that captivated me and just about everyone else this weekend.
5. Michael Vick: Threw for zero yards in a 24-3 loss at Minnesota. Not sure he’s going to be starting for much longer with those numbers.
